How to Submit Your Products to Your Shopify Designer

Brand Tips, Shopify Tips

Getting everything together to create your website can feel SUPER overwhelming! We wanted to take some time to go over best practices when submitting products to your designer for your Shopify site.

Submitting products to a designer in Shopify typically involves providing them with the necessary information, images, and specifications for the products you want to feature on your online store. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

Vocabulary:

Collection: A collection is a grouping of products that merchants can create to make their stores easier to browse. For example, a merchant might create a collection for a specific type of product that they sell, such as Footwear.

Product: What you are selling!

Variant: Variations in the product such as size or color. Each unique combination of option values can be considered a variant for that particular product. For instance, let’s say you retail T-shirts with two customizable options: size and color. The size option offers three choices: small, medium, and large, while the color option includes blue and green. A specific variant arising from these options would be a small, blue T-shirt.

Your Step by Step Guide

  1. Organize Product Information:
    • Gather all the necessary information about each product, including product names, descriptions, prices, and variants (e.g., sizes, colors).
    • Decide on a cohesive way to name your products.
    • Separate your products into the appropriate collection.

Compile high-quality images of each product. Ensure that the images are clear, well-lit, and showcase the product from different angles. If you need help with product photography or graphics then let us know! We would love to help you create something amazing! Contact us HERE!

  • If you are going to have different variations for the product (think color or pattern) then it is great to have an image of each option.
  • Label your images so there is no confusion as to what picture goes with what product
  1. Create a Spreadsheet:
    • Use a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to organize your product information. Include columns for product names, descriptions, prices, variants, and image URLs.
    • You can export a sample CSV file (make sure you make a copy) from Shopify, fill in your product details, and then import it back into Shopify.
  2. Access Your Shopify Admin:
    • Log in to your Shopify admin panel.
  3. Navigate to Products:
    • In the Shopify admin, go to the “Products” section.
  4. Add Products Manually:
    • If you have a small number of products, you or your designer can add them manually by clicking the “Add product” button and filling in the required fields.
  5. Bulk Import:
    • If you have a larger number of products, consider using the “Import” feature to upload your spreadsheet. Go to the “Products” section, click on “Import,” and follow the instructions to upload your CSV file.
  6. Review and Publish:
    • After adding or importing your products, review each one to ensure that all details are accurate.
    • Set the product status to “Active” to make them visible on your online store.
  7. Collaborate with a Designer:
    • If you’re working with a designer to create custom graphics or themes for your products, provide them with access to your Shopify store.
    • Clearly communicate your design requirements, including any specific branding guidelines, color schemes, or imagery preferences.
  8. Communication:
  • Maintain open communication with your designer. You can discuss design progress, provide feedback, and address any concerns at any point in the process!
  1. Test Your Store:
  • Before officially launching your store, thoroughly test the checkout process, product pages, and overall functionality to ensure a smooth customer experience.

By following these steps, you’ll effectively submit your products to a designer in Shopify and ensure a cohesive and visually appealing online store.
