Lights, Camera, Panic: Brand Photography 101

Does the sheer idea of being on camera fill you with a sense of dread? We get it! Most people do not start their business to be on camera (well, unless you’re us). Whether we’re building your brand
from the ground up or taking your existing brand up a notch we aim to make your photo shoot day to be a day of celebration. Your brand shoot day is there to show off all of your hard work and more importantly to show your potential clients/ customers what you have to offer! We’ve created this guide to help you know what to expect when planning a full service brand photography photo shoot.

Phase One : Let’s Get to Know Each Other

We start off by getting to know not only your business but also you! The purpose of our first call is to make sure that we are a great fit and that your business is ready to be taken to the next level.

How can you be sure you’re ready before we hop on a call? Here are some great questions to answer for yourself first:

  • What are your core brand values?
  • What does your potential or established audience care about?
  • Where would you like to take your brand?
  • How do you plan on making money?
  • What is your ideal timeline for project completion?

Of course, we will work with you to flesh out a lot of this in Phase 1. We want you to walk away from Phase 1 with a solid idea of what your ideal brand looks like, who your target customer is, and what makes your venture unique. While some of these details can certainly change along the way, having these foundations in place will help ensure that we’re staying on track as we move forward.

Phase Two : Let’s Get Visual – Creating Brand Photos that Last

The fun doesn’t really start until after we have committed to work together! During this phase we will task you with completing a few intake projects. These projects will help us get a sense of your style and better understand your longterm goals. During phase two we will be working together to find new and interesting ways to bring your brand to life!

By the end of the exploration stage we should:

  • Have a rough idea of what your outfit color palette will be
  • General Idea of where we are shooting
  • Discussing what props we can use to elevate the shoot!
  • If it is a larger scale shoot we will be discussing sourcing and prop creation at this stage
Drewe and Kate Branding Co. Taylor Swift Speak Now

As our girl Taylor always says, Speak Now

No one knows your business better than you! If at any point in the creative process you feel like you want to redirect the focus, then let your photographer and brand stylist know! Our main goal at Drewe and Kate is to be there for you and to make sure that your brand needs are not only being met, but furthered. Open communication is the key to photos that you love! Remember, no idea is too wild or too crazy! One of our clients is a bookkeeper for creatives and while we could have taken a more traditional route we knew that to make her brand stand out we had to do something with impact. We incorporated her signature color (pink) and make everything larger than life!

Phase Three: Secure the Details

Next comes our planning and booking stage. During this phase you will receive your style guide (if you have requested within the 4 week timeline) and your hair and makeup appointment details. We will be solidifying the shot list + making sure you know where to go the day of your photo shoot. This is the perfect time for any last minute questions or book that hair and makeup trial! We will have a final call to make sure everything is good to go!

Phase Four: Let’s Bring Your Brand to Life

All you have to be is yourself! Brand photos are meant to show off you! We know that it can feel scary to put yourself in front of a camera, but don’t worry! We’ve got you covered! Our main goal is to make your life easier and make sure that you get the content you need to further your brand. We also want you to remember that you and your business deserve this photo shoot.

Shoot day should run like clockwork! We will be going off of the timeline + shot list to ensure we capture everything you will need to highlight your brand digitally! After the shoot we will return your images within 2 weeks.
